Freedom Is Slavery

Freedom Is Slavery

Much has changed inAmericain the past 50 years among the many changes is that freedom and liberty became confused with the equality. Liberals inAmericasince LBJ’s great Society have attempted to substitute equality among people for freedom. For some of us it’s easy to see that equality should exist in opportunity, there cannot be a quality and talent or sheer desire to succeed. Each of us are certainly endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights granted us not by government however equality is not one of them. Human beings are anything but equal in fact it is our quintessential inequality that truly makes us free. The reason that some strive and achieve academically while others have great success athletically is testament to freedom of choice in people. One of the things that made our country great is the very fact that while should have equality of opportunity we cannot have equality of outcomes. Yet beginning with the great Society programs particularly in education for example equality of outcomes seems to be the goal. That same desire to achieve equality of outcomes is permeating modern labor and affecting how our government and businesses operate today. As a nation whose First Amendment protects speech we have become a nation who suppresses it. Speech that is not deemed democratic can often be called hate speech. Even Christianity can be caught in this horrible trap of gender and sexual orientation and equality of outcomes.

A great example of this attempt for a quality of outcomes centers on the civil rights struggle. White and black children were bused in many cases far from their neighborhoods and in some cases to inferior schools, igniting racial conflict and white flight from city schools. This has occurred while we have seen and for some presided over the ruin that is public education. Graduation rates that continue to spiral down while union pay and federal and state mandates dramatically increase. As a society our educational system perhaps demonstrates better than anything can how foolish the constant search for equality of outcomes. White students and Asian students score higher on tests and achieve on average better grades than black or Hispanic students. This is largely because we as a society continue to fail to understand the underlying problems with our public education system and continue to throw money at a broken system. We need to offer different choices expect different outcomes and train for students who have challenges that are cultural or ethnic that exist for some and not for others. Until we deal with our problems instead of continuing to feed an educational system that is broken we will never win. We also need choices for students that offer alternatives to public education so that more people can be better trained for other types of labor more suited to them in particular. When we do this without regard to race, creed or ethnic origin we can begin to solve these important problems.

Government has imposed upon itself as an employer as well as all businesses a kind of de facto racism to race and gender quotas. These arbitrary quotas add to the cost of doing business and ultimately to the delivery of services by that business or institution. Billions of dollars are siphoned from companies who are involved in class-action suits for alleged discrimination. Indeed the fighting of discrimination inAmericahas become an industry in and of itself that tries to right the wrongs of society. The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition serves more to shakedown corporateAmericathan it does benefit minorities and those that it claims to represent. The Rev. Jackson in truth acts in his own self-interest is nothing more than a shakedown artist. The problem is not with Rev. Jackson is really with a government that for nearly 50 years has attempted to become the people’s agent for the quality of outcomes.

In a nation where the top 5% of income earners pay 75% of the tax burden and the bottom 50% of income earners pay 0% we still continue to want more revenue from the most successful among us. In and of itself this is an economic system that is unsustainable under any capitalist model any time in history. If we tax the top income earners at 100% it would not be enough to support the failed budgets of our government. The Occupy Movement and many on the left choose to blame the wealthy for the lack of equality of outcomes. Crony capitalism is of course an abomination that must cease and merely serves to fuel this occupy mentality. By continuing to use the European socialist guide path that we have been on eventually all of our talented, brightest and best will leaveAmerica.

In a nation where speech is censored now because of hate crimes law that punished speech that is deemed offensive to prevailing dogma is relatively new in the American experience. All races, ethnic groups and people’s sexual orientation are asked to be equally judged and outcomes earned regardless of talent or ability. Even with regard to religious worship Christianity has been purged from our schools and the public square and a desire for equal outcomes. So a nation long known for Judeo Christian traditions must set them aside to embrace all traditions and ultimately none are.

Another glaring area of the quality versus freedom argument is in the equality of outcomes that are gender based. Under federal government title IX woman’s sports have become equal in outcomes to men’s sports regardless of talent or ability. The number of scholarships that can be given by colleges is now directed by this gender equalizing of outcomes rather than true talent and ability. Men’s colleges must admit women where schools like VMI and the Citadel with 150 year traditions have ended over the desires of relatively few people. Men have been so discriminated against in the workforce that women with jobs now outnumber men, regardless of talent or ability. In our current recession 70% of job losses have been by men all in the name of equality.

In the name of equality homosexual practice has become elevated to a constitutional right. Same-sex marriage is supposedly guaranteed by the 14th amendment which considering it was written hundred 150 years ago is almost laughable. Could it be that anyone actually believes that the 14th amendment was intended for same-sex marriage or is it as I expect another case of trying to achieve equality of outcomes? Even when 31 states have rejected gay marriage judges are declaring these unions as valid. We are becoming a nation where an idea of equality can be rejected by the rejected by voters but still be imposed by dictatorial courts.

In order to make minority home ownership equal with white homeowners and starting with President Clinton, home ownership became an equal outcome crusade. Beginning first with Clinton and reinforced by president Bush banks were forced into loans of subprime mortgages often handed out to unsuspecting minority homeowners who were told they could afford it. This perverse manner of arranging loans nearly brought down and may still our entire free enterprise system.

When we see that there exists tens of thousands of bureaucrats working at all levels of government and in universities and most corporations to sustain the system it shouldn’t surprise us. We have built a system that has broken that is dedicated to the equality of outcomes regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or orientation. When we see what has resulted from this 50 year experiment in managing outcomes in such a superfluous way we can see the ruin of our American experiment. If we are to survive as a nation with our liberty and freedom intact we must rebuild and remake ourselves. It will never be solved if we continue to force liberty and freedom to be at war with equality.

About Commish Greg

I have had a life long love affair with the New York Yankees and baseball period. In my retirement I've discovered the hobby of sports game simulation through online gaming. I also have collected cards and memorabilia since I was 7 years old in 1961. I inherited from my uncle the collections starting from 1956 - 1960 and in 1961 I started my own collecting. I started an online league through Out Of The Park Development and their game OOTP16. The name of the league is the Alternate History Baseball League and it began in the 1954 baseball season when I and fifteen others held an inaugural draft and began the AHBL league in earnest. In my blog I will review the AHBL league and also mix some pop culture and historic events from real life. I hope you enjoy !
